December Downwarming And Snow Is Not Climate Smart PDF Print E-mail

dec21-2010-s-swedenThe exceptional cold and white December in most parts of the northern hemisphere makes it difficult not to feel sceptical about the official cult belief: that this is clear evidence of climate disruption caused by excessive amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Last year was almost as white and cold as this year, leaving only Greenland with somewhat greener weather. It is a shame, though, for those who fully accept that we have, and are creating, climate related problems by using so called fossil fuels, because the weather tends not to enhance their argument. When people cannot come to Christmas events, and spend much of their time and money fighting the current "downwarming" and dealing with wind turbines producing very expensive electricity at times when you do not need it, the current Global Warming campaign is neither very Climate Smart, nor does it make much sense.

The picture is from the south of Sweden on December 21st 2010, taken when the temperature was -19.7C or -3.5F. The whole of December 2010 has been way below freezing, which is one month too early at this location.

It is currently looking like the hardship is far from over, and as Piers Corbyn said months ago, the UK and parts of Europe will experience the coldest weather in the beginning of the new year. Yesterday in Amsterdam, it took passengers around 4 hours to go 15Km by train. The Dutch are not really used to dealing with a lot of snow and who can blame them? They have been told year after year that they should not expect to see snow very often any more due to man-made global warming. Now that we get the cold and snow, it is suddenly culturally correct to attribute these to the same thing: man-made Global Warming.

The real problem is that we probably still have long-term global warming, as we have had since the Little Ice Age or since the last Ice Age. However, the climate cult doctors are making it more and more difficult to evaluate the current trend, because they have acted extremely sloppily and manipulatively with the historic thermometer data (apart from the thermometers they subjectively felt uncomfortable with, and binned).

It looks like we just have to enjoy the beauty of the white and cold even at low latitudes, because the climate cultists do not seem to control the weather or the climate. Moreover, they cannot even predict the weather or the climate. Their predictions to-date have been so egregiously wrong, one must ask what they are doing with the trillions of dollar they gather from average tax payers.

May I just finish with a sincere wish that all of you who have waited four or five days in airports like Heathrow to reach your families and friends in time to have a wonderful Christmas in a warm house.

It's been 7 degrees below normal for the past (at least) two weeks here in northern Virginia (also for adjacent southern areas)

The Danish island Bornholm, located between Sweden and Germany, has become traffic free due to enormous snow drifts and there is way more to come. The authorities have given up clearing the snow and even large military vehicles have problems assisting as ambulances. There have been tougher winters than this, but seldom so early in the season.

"The real problem is that we probably still have long-term global warming..."

And it's a problem because?

Quoting Steve Case:

The problem, as I see it, is that the long term trend has been a warming since the last ice age, and that the doctored data makes it more difficult for honest scientists to figure out whether this trend will continue or we have reached the peak.
So, the problem is maybe not so much the trend, but rather the way the temperatures are "fixed" in order to keep the Global Warming Money flowing.
Apparently it doesn't matter to the warmists what the real temperatures and trends are, because whatever the event, it is always caused by man-made CO2 during the industrial period.
Even if the oceans begin to cool and stop exhaling CO2, where after we are likely to see a fall in atmospheric CO2, the true believers are likely to say: "See we managed to reduce CO2 and save the world!".
