fahrenheit451alBig Al has for sure read the Ray Bradbury book in his young days and how dictatorial, egotistic and marxist administration has a need for concealing the truth behind the agenda.  In the story it was books, now it is the Internet; but the concept is the same.  In the book "they" used outbreak of fire as a decoy, now "they" use Global Warming as a decoy; but the concept is the same.

Big Al wants us to us to leap into using a new technology that is not even close to be developed in a foreseeable future, he wants us to cover our energy needs from solar and wind.  If solar and wind could do the deed without compromising nature and aesthetics too much and the price was bearable, then solar and wind is more than welcome.

Big Al answers, in response to suggestion on nuclear expansion, that those things rose tenfold
in price in 30 years and therefore too costly.  Even if he was right, nuclear is still manyfold cheaper than solar and wind.  Al is also concerned about the production of plutonium the plants provide, which is an understandable argument.  However, virtually all negative issues regarding conventional nuclear power plants could be resolved with the wider use of thorium reactors.  The US has only one single plant of this kind - why?  I have a hunch and I think you have too.  If the Nobel Peace Price Winner would have combined his business ambitions, his political ambitions, his peace ambitions and his ego, he and the rest of the world would have been best served if he had been fighting for general use of melted salt (thorium) reactors.  Because although these fellows are nuclear, the half-life is so short that you only need to store the waste for a thousand years.  The thorium reactors cannot explode, like we had it with Chernobyl and they do not produce plutonium.

Big Al could have lead us through a path of cheap, plentiful, sfae and reliable energy with existing technology, but I guess the man has been surrounded by somewhat charlatan like friends and colleagues during much of his life.  If Gore would stick to politics and leave science to those who are not building their carrier on politics - this could be true in the light of Climategate and the awesome failure of COP15 - may the gate be with you.
