flagermus / batIn the beautiful landscape in the north-west of Denmark, the government is forcefully devoting a test center for very large industrial wind turbines. With the exception of people and industries involved in the wind industry, protester have and nature organizations have written letters, created websites and physically tried to block the malicious act against our heritage.

So how does the state get away with such an act - they use shameful tricks and ignorance!

One trick is to wait with research into possible harmful effects of the test center, until after the construction. First now, after building the center has already gone into it's initial phase, the state has ordered a research from Aarhus University into this matter.
The environment research has only been prompted due to many protests over Environment Minister's planning permission law, which is superficial and deficient.

This way the government has totally ignored the extremely protected bat, called pond bat (Myotis dasycneme). This animal has very few locations left. It used to live in old trees, but will now have to live, or die, in new windmills, because the trees will be cut. The little fellow can reach 19 years, is first reproductive after the second year, and there are only a few males to serve hundreds of females. I guess therefore that too small a colony, will simply die out.

The sloppy government put their heads in the bush, failing to do any research what so ever regarding windmills' threat to bats. This despite several studies in USA, Germany and Sweden, confirming serious complications. The problem is that the bats can be hit by the blades and their lungs collapse in the vacuum behind the rotor. In addition the windmills are relative warm at night, thus attracting insects, and therefore bats. The Danish biologist from Aarhus University, Morten Elmeros, told the government about this danger, but to no avail - nowadays green windindustry comes before nature and national heritage.

July 26th 2011, activists tried to stop the first logging of hardwood forest. Please note that in this case we are not talking about the usual industrial forest of pine trees.

The politician, Karen Ellemann, has beforehand ensured the Danes, that there is no "nature content" in this forest. Right, this is not Amazon rain forest, so surely here in DK we have less diversity. However, some of us appreciate the little wildlife and nature we have left in this country. We have rare birds here too, and we know from the US how mortal the glass fiber rotors can be. In the US 23,000 Golden Eagles has been killed by windmills over a period of 25 years. This appears to be unimportant, when promoting "green" industry.

Suggestions have been around, that the windmills should be stopped during nighttime in the summer period. This might save those bats which have found new old trees somewhere to live in, but is does not save the birds in the daytime, for that the windmills must be stopped all year round in the daytime. This would leave only the nighttime during winter, where frost and calm winds will prevent any useful research anyway. - Conclusion must be that any restriction will be ignored by our "green industry" and ignorant government.

The state always knows best! We the state do not care about Your desire, after all the decision is in the hands of Brussels or EPA, and even if you throw us out at next election, the new government is part of the very same group thinking - LOL.

It would not be so bad to loss of parts of our last nature and a few thousand birds and bats every year, if the industrial windmills were a last savior - but they are absolutely the opposite!

Although wind turbines use the free wind to generate electricity into the grid, which must be kept in perfect equilibrium at all times, the cost of doing so is very expensive, with great cost to nature and wild life, and the need for constant backup and balancing function from conventional power plants. The net result is very little reduction in CO2 contribution (or actually more of the greeining gas), and skyrocketing energy prices. If you include the CO2, released in connection with the windmill construction itself, some scientists claim that the net result will be production of more CO2 with windmills, compared to without them. It is therefore difficult to see any "green" aspects of windmills, with the exception of those turbines that are painted green instead of white.
