Five German Facts On Climate Change

By Karl J. Hansen

5 Fakten zum Klimawandel

rahmstorfOn the web site Professor Stefan Rahmstorf write a "5 Facts About Climate Change" article.  Although Rahmstorf is one of many popular climate scientists who has fallen for the IPCC propaganda, I think it is worth criticizing his five "facts", because of his popularity and his engagement in the political global warming debate in Germany through his employment in "Potsdam Institut für Klimafolgenforschung" (PIK).

My German language skills are not adequate to do a fast translation, so I hope you can follow the combination of German and English in my attempt to point out my critic.
All italic print is from the original article on:

[It is correct that we are in the middle of climate change, but it is incorrect that we humans has caused it.  The last couple of hundred years has had no more climate change than the last many thousand years, neither in amplitude nor in frequency.]
[This is very impressive!]
[Sure, but are you also accepted by the worlds more than 40.000 scientists who think you and IPCC are fatally mistaken?]

1. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased since about 1850, and that from the typical warm period value of 280 ppm to 380 ppm.
[You actually state that it can be warm while the CO2 is low (280), which suggests to me that it could also be cold while the CO2 is high (380).  Your statement seems to show that CO2 and global temperature have very little relation to each other.]

2. For this increase humans are responsible, foremost through the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas, benzines), secondly through deforestation.
[We are only partly responsible and it would be bad not to leave additional CO2 for new forest to grow on.]

3. CO2 is a greenhouse gas [but a very minor one at over 20ppm], which changes the Earth's radiation housekeeping [has yet to be shown from real life data].  An increase in the concentration result in increase temperature at near the surface [not likely as the "hot-spot is missing].  If the CO2 contents is doubled in the air, the global global mean temperature increases 2 to 4 degree C [or rather under 0.1 degree C].  The most plausible value is 3 degree C [only in the virtual world of the IPCC computer models].

4. Since 1900 the global temperature rose with ca. 0.8 degree C. [or maybe more precisely an unchanged average of 0.6 degree per century since last Ice Age].  The temperatures for the past ten years was the warmest since measurement began in the 19th century [no, only with manipulates/discarded data, the more adequate satellites shows another story] and at lest several centuries before [just escaped the Medieval Warm-period, which was significantly warmer with less CO2].

5. Most of the warming caused by increased CO2 concentration and other anthropogenic gases.  Rahmstorf emphasizes, that these five facts are based on decades of research and thousand of studies, so that it is "practically unthinkable", that they could be disproved.

I have come to the conclusion, Mr. Rahmstorf, that you have turnes your blind eye to fact that none of your statements can be proven from real life present, nor historic data.  Large number of scientists have left the IPCC because statement like your five "facts" has been disproved countless times from scientists even more clever than you.  I have the feeling your statements would be very different if you did not work for the government.
