Stop Using Climate Icons Ignorantly
By Karl J. Hansen, klimabedrag.dk
Denmark is a master in using all sorts of icons as an example of global warming. I have yet to find one single of them to be true. Very few Danish academics put both feet to the ground and analyze the climate icons objectively and with an acceptable broadness. The few prominent Danes who actually think broad, objectively and admit their standpoint, mostly live abroad, away from any likely sanctions from going against the correct climate policy. One example of one such scientist living abroad, is the Danish Ole Humlum Professor in physical geology at Oslo University. Back in 2008 he pointed out that the glacier at Ilulissat in Greenland is not melting due to global warming, but because change in ocean currents had shifted warmer water in under the glacier. This melting glacier has been shown to politicians all over the world and is one of the cornerstones used by the climate-minister Connie Hedegaard and the premier minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen. This is just one example, but also a very illustrative one.
The polar ice is another icon that might very well have had some truth in in the past, but that was back in 2007. Since then the polar ice has thickened and expanded to such a degree that we must expect a full recovery to be imminent. That does not interest the politicians, they will rather lie th an loose a single icon. Resent expeditions to the North-Pole were fiascoes due to thicker ice and colder weather than they expected.
It should have occurred to most informed people at this time, that we are in a cooling phase. However, this is difficult with an icon like the research leader Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen from the Danish Climate Center at the Danish Meteorologic Institute. Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen has still not learned that the hockey-stick is dead and confuses higher measurement over land as a proof of man-made global warming. Here is one example from Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen: "Fra 1910-40 så vi især, at temperaturen steg over havområderne. Derfor mener vi, at det skyldesændringer i havet. De seneste 30 år har vi især oplevet temperaturstigninger over land; derfor må detskyldes ændringer i atmosfæren, hvor mængden af CO -2 i perioden er steget voldsomt,..." - and in English: "From 1910-40 we in particular saw, that the temperature rose over the ocean areas. Therefore we think, that it is caused by changes in the ocean. The resent 30 years we have in particular experienced temperature increase over land; therefore it must be due to changes in the atmosphere, where the amount of CO-2 in the period has risen enormously,...". The rest of us have learned the flaws in the land temperature measurements. The land measurements have become so flawed that they are almost worthless, we cannot know how contaminated these data are as the original raw data are discarded. At the end, both Mr. Christensen and the rest of us, have to put our faith into the satellite data.
The polar bear is the icon for the people. Again, the informed part of the human population should really know by now, that polar bears can swim, that they, as a whole, are thriving a nd that t he iconic picture does not illustrate a drowning bear. In order to keep the icon intact, the alarmists fired the most distinguished researcher, namely Mitchell Taylor who was exiled due to his findings being counterproductive to the climate scam.
The list could go on for ever and ever, but the terrible thing is, that these repeated misinterpretations of real events are causing some scientists, nearly all politicians and a significant part of the general population to almost believe that all or nearly all the icons are truly real and due to global warming.
