On the page for "Friends of Science" on Wikipedia, you find the Ten Commandments of Climate, which Friends Of Science disagree with (and 31,000 scientists in US alone). I think this Wikipedia page if illustrative of the arguments for making climate a very scary thing, and a tool for deindustrialization and other agendas.
It would have been wise if Wikipedia had explained to the reader, what the opposite viewpoint was, so I will do it for them, to the best of my knowledge, in the faint hope that it will be added.
In the following I write the commandments in black and my comments in green:
- Global temperatures are rising at a rapid, unprecedented rate.
Global temperatures are rising and falling at rate and amplitude within normal parameters.
- The "hockey stick" graph proves that the earth has experienced a steady, very gradual temperature decrease for 1000 years, then recently began a sudden increase.
The "hockey stick" graph is convincingly disproved and bare no resemblance to any earlier temperature graphs for the period in question. The graph did not even contain MWP or LIA, and can therefore not be used in any scensible discussion.
- Human produced carbon dioxide has increased over the last 100 years, adding to the greenhouse effect, thus warming the earth.
The statement is most likely true, and not really contested by anyone. - However, increased CO2 from human activity might cause a small warming. Some or nearly all the increase in CO2, could be a result from global warming about 800 years ago (MWP), which is the time lag between increasing temperature and the resulting increase in CO2.
- CO2 is the most common greenhouse gas.
CO2 is not the most common greenhouse gas. The most common greenhouse gas is water vapor.
- Computer models verify that CO2 increases will cause significant global warming.
A computer model cannot verify, so the statement is ludicrous. Observed data, which can verify, indicate that CO2, at current level, has shown little to no practical effect on global temperature.
- The UN proved that man–made CO2 causes global warming.
We would all like to see their scientific proof! (backed up by real life data).
- CO2 is a pollutant.
CO2 has only been defined as a pollutant in political circles. CO2 is mainly produced by nature, for nature, and there would be no life on the planet without it. Thus, this statement is political rubbish.
- Global warming will cause more storms and other weather extremes.
Global warming will cause less storms and other weather extremes. - The explanation for this, is that temperature difference is a vital element to create storms. The temperature difference diminish during global warming, because the poles warm more than the tropics. Historical data verify this.
- Receding glaciers and the calving of ice shelves are proof of global warming.
Neither is proof of anything. Some glaciers are receding other increase, and is most often caused by change in precipitation. Every year there are tenth of thousand of calvings, thus probably nobody can estimate if the rate is changing. More calving, if that is the case, is most likely due to higher ice pressure after thickening of the inland ice. But there are, as usual, many factors involved.
- The earth’s poles are warming; polar ice caps are breaking up and melting and the sea level rising.
The earth’s North Pole is warming (possibly due to change in ocean currens); polar ice caps are breaking up and melting (ambiguous WWF crab) and the sea level rising at a still slower rate. - The south Pole is getting colder. The sea ice extent was diminishing in the years up to 2007. Since then the multi year thick ice has increased ever since.
